Vietnamese pool player defeats South Korean for World Cup 3-Cushion championship

Tran Duc Minh has won the Billiards World Three-Cushion Championship after defeating South Korean Kim Jun-tae 50-46 in the finals on Sunday.

In the finals in HCMC on Sunday, Minh started off the game well, having led the scoreboard at one point at 21-4. However, Kim later took the upper hand, narrowing down the score gap to 10-21, then 16-24.

An opportunity later came for Minh, which helped change the scoreboard to 47-46. The game ended with a scoreboard at 50-46, earning Minh his victory. Hundreds of spectators jumped in joy to celebrate with Minh.

Minh is now ranked 250th globally. The 40-year-old pool player won against several tough opponents in the qualifiers, including reigning champion Tran Quyet Chien and Turkish player Berkay Karakurt. In 2019, he was the runner up of the 3-Cushion championship at national level.

Earlier in 2023, Bao Phuong Vinh won the billiards World Three-Cushion Championship in his first attempt by defeating compatriot Tran Quyet Chien in the final, becoming the first Vietnamese player to win the title.
