Quach Thi Lan will be the sole athlete to represent Vietnam at this year's World Athletics Championships held July 15-24 in Oregon, U.S.

The 26-year-old earned a wild card entry to the 18th edition of the event after Vietnam failed to win a berth through the official qualification regime. She will compete in the 400 m hurdles qualification round on July 19. If she qualifies, she will head to the semi-finals on July 20 and the finals two days later.

Lan will go up against the fastest runners in the world, including Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin who crossed the finish line in 51.41 seconds and broke her own world record of 51.46 seconds in 400 m hurdles at the U.S. track and field championships last week.

Lan won the 400 m hurdles race at the 2018 Asian Games and the Asian championships in 2019.

She also claimed two SEA Games gold medals in the 400 m hurdles and 4x400 m relay, and a bronze in the 400 m last month. She had reached the semifinals of the 400 m hurdles at the Tokyo Olympics last year but could not manage a podium finish.

At the 2019 championship in Qatar, Vietnam's Ngan Ngoc Nghia competed in the men's 100 m dash. However, he did not make it to the finals.
