The first tournament of Vietnam Golf Association (VGA) this year, Vietnam Masters, will take place from May 11 to 14.

The event will be hosted at FLC Quy Nhon golf course in Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh Province in south central Vietnam. The total prize fund of Vietnam Masters is VND1 billion ($43,470) with the champion getting VND180 million just like last season.

The fifth edition of the tournament will still take place over four 18-hole rounds. The current champion is Do Hong Giang. Last year, the golfer from Quang Ninh caused a big surprise at the tournament by topping the table throughout all four rounds and lifting the trophy.

"Vietnam Masters is an opening tournament for a series of VGA pro tours. The tournament not only creates a playground and income for professional athletes but also facilitates amateur golfers to embark on their path to pro golfing and improve their skills, helping Vietnam source and nurture future talents," said Le Hung Nam, general secretary of VGA.

Organizers of Vietnam Masters 2021 will support half of the competition fee for athletes under 18 years old. Young athletes with good results will get to attend another tournament in the VGA Tour system and be supported 100 percent of the participation fee. VGA hopes to groom amateur golfers prior to entering national team selection qualifiers for SEA Games 31 in Vietnam this year.

After Vietnam Masters, four more VGA tour events will take place - Vietnam Open, National Championship, VGA Tour Challenge and Tour Championship.
