The match between Portugal and Turkey in Group F of Euro 2024 on June 22 had a security incident when the young fan entered the pitch.
Ronaldo was friendly, hugged the boy and smiled while posing for the selfie. This fan was then caught by security, while photos of Ronaldo and the young fan later went viral on social media.
UEFA said that such action on the pitch will not be tolerated because it can cause serious consequences. The European football's governing body decided to ban the boy from attending the remaining matches of Euro 2024.
"Any incursion onto the pitch constitutes a breach of the stadium rules and will result in expulsion from the stadium, a ban from all tournament matches and the filing of a formal criminal complaint for trespass," Express quoted UEFA’s statement.
"There is no criminal responsibility for under-12s, however the accompanying adult remains responsible for ensuring that child adheres to the stadium rules in accordance with the ticketing terms and conditions."
It was reported that five fans have tried to enter the pitch during the second half of the match between Portugal and Turkey as they all wanted to take photos with Ronaldo.
This incident made Portugal coach Roberto Martinez concerned about the safety of his players.
UEFA has promised to strengthen security to prevent similar incidents.
