German club Borussia Monchengladbach is looking to sign Vietnamese left-back Doan Van Hau, a new report says.

Borussia Monchengladbach, currently fourth in the German top football league Bundesliga, is interested in hiring Doan Van Hau, according to FussballTransfers website.

The site said Gladbach sent scouts to watch Hau play in the match between Hanoi FC and Bangkok United in the qualification round of AFC Champions League 2019 earlier this year. Hanoi FC won the game 1-0.

The German club is looking at Hau as a replacement for 33-year-old Swedish left-back Oscar Wendt, whose contract ends in 2020.

According to FussballTransfers, Hau is considered one of Asia’s best full-backs.

"In Europe, the 19-year-old youngster is still unknown. But in his country, he is already a star. His video highlights are watched on YouTube by several hundred thousand people," the site noted.

It added: "With a height of 1.85 meters, Doan Van Hau is a powerful left-back with the offensive instinct. He has what it takes to replace Oscar Wendt."

A transfer consultant for international sports agency Football Total confirmed that several clubs are interested in Hau. He said the left-back has drawn increased attention after Asian Cup 2019.

For his part, Hau welcomed the news.

"Every football player wants to play on big stages. I have a dream to go abroad, and I’m still trying to make it happen," he told VnExpress.

"I want to play in Europe and if I have to play in Asia, I want to go to a developed football country like Japan or Korea," he added.

Hau has been a constant member of the Vietnamese teams that recorded a great year last year, winning the AFC U23 Championship and the AFF Cup and finishing fourth at the Asian Games. Earlier this year, the team also made it to the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup.

Hau is now preparing for the 2020 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers with his teammates. The U23 team will clash U23 Brunei on March 23 at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi.
