Scoring with a header is really rare in futsal, but Vietnam did it with style in their 2-3 defeat against Russia during FIFA Futsal World Cup round of 16.

"Vietnam lost 7-0 to Russia in the round of 16 at Colombia 2016, with many predicting a similar thrashing and, sure enough, RFU raced into a 2-0 lead. But not only was the Vietnamese response immediate, it was historic," FIFA wrote after the game on Wednesday night.

"Ho Van Y released an inch-perfect throw upfield, the ball was knocked across goal and Nguyen Dac Huy headed it home en route to a pride-instilling 3-2 defeat," it wrote.

Miguel Rodrigo, former Vietnam coach and current member of FIFA Technical Study Group, also praised the goal.

"It was an amazing goal, absolutely fantastic. A header assisting a header is something you barely ever see," Rodrigo said.

Russian newspaper Gazeta was also surprised with the goal and used the word "magical" to describe it.

After the game, Russia coach Sergei Skorovich said: "Vietnam deployed very quick counter-attacks with long passes. They have shown that in the first goal."

This is Vietnam’s second time at Futsal World Cup after first qualifying in 2016.

In the group stage, Vietnam were crushed 1-9 by Brazil, but rebounded to beat Panama 3-2 and tie 1-1 with the Czech Republic to advance as one of the best third-placed teams.
