Vietnamese women beat Hong Kong 2-1 Saturday in the second match, second qualification round for 2020 Olympics.

After beating the home team Uzbekistan in group B on Wednesday, Vietnam entered the match with an attacking strategy, and had 70 percent control of the ball. Their efforts paid off with two goals in the first half.

But Hong Kong, considered a less threatening opponent compared to Uzbekistan, surprised Vietnam in the second half by scoring early. All subsequent efforts, however, were thwarted by Vietnam.

The victory takes Vietnam to top of Group B with six points, followed by Uzbekistan with three points, Hong Kong one and Jordan one.

Vietnam will play its last game of the group against Jordan on Tuesday. They only need one point to enter the third and last qualifying round.

If Vietnam is among the three best teams in the third qualifier, they will compete with Australia, North Korea, South Korea, China and Thailand to be among the two best teams that will join Japan to contest the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.

Vietnam women are now ranked 35th on the FIFA ranking, 7th in Asia and 2nd in Southeast Asia.
