Ugelvik was injured in the 85th minute. During an aerial duel, the 23-year-old player collided with Indonesia goalkeeper Ernando Ari, and both fell. Ugelvik reportedly landed face-first on the ground and lost consciousness. Players from both teams formed a circle to allow medical staff to administer first aid to Ugelvik.
The match was paused for a few minutes due to the incident. An ambulance drove into the stadium, and Ugelvik was carried out on a stretcher and taken to hospital.
Erick Thohir, President of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), updated the situation on Wednesday as he confirmed that Ugelvik has become conscious and was awaiting the results of an MRI scan. PSSI also posted a photo of Ugelvik lying in a hospital bed in stable condition.
The Philippines Football Federation (PFF) posted a photo of Ugelvik giving a thumbs-up while in the hospital.
"Ugelvik is fine and in stable condition. He will stay in the hospital for further monitoring," PFF wrote on X (formerly Twitter). In the post-match press conference, coach Tom Saintfiet said the young defender suffered a slight concussion from the incident.
The Philippines were already eliminated from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers before Tuesday's match against Indonesia, sitting at the bottom of Group F with one point after five matches. At Bung Karno Stadium, the team lost 0-2 to host Indonesia.
With the victory, Indonesia maintained their second place behind Iraq and advanced to the third qualifying round for the first time. In the final match of Group F a few hours later, Vietnam lost 1-3 to Iraq.
