Than Quang Ninh members will play the next V. League game after the club paid them a part of their overdue salaries.

The club's chairman Pham Thanh Hung had a meeting with the players Saturday. The club will spend VND4.5 billion ($195,400) to pay four months of salary to all players and the rest, later. Therefore, the players agreed to keep playing. They will face Hanoi FC on Sunday.

The total money that Quang Ninh owes its players is estimated to be around VND90 billion, including salaries from September 2020 to April 2021, bonuses in late 2019 and other dues.

The players said if the situation does not change, they would act legally, within FIFA rules, to end their contracts with Quang Ninh after the first leg of the season.

Quang Ninh had faced financial problems before the 2021 season began, with their sponsor withdrawing. The team's head manager and many key players have already moved to other teams. Only a few have stayed and the club has had to use many young players from their academy. Despite this, the team has performed well. After eight rounds of the V. League tournament, they have 18 points, only one behind table leaders Hoang Anh Gia Lai.

In March, Quang Ninh players went on strike and refused to train.

Quang Ninh Province has said it does not have the responsibility to pay the players, that the duty belongs to Quang Ninh Football JSC and the club's sponsor Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group.
