Ronaldo is said to be dissatisfied with Pioli’s tactical approach and lack of competitiveness. Despite a 22-year coaching career, Pioli has only one major title to his name, which is the 2021–2022 Serie A with AC Milan. Since taking over Al Nassr in September 2024 and replacing Luis Castro, the Italian coach has yet to secure a title.
The 40-year-old forward is pushing for a complete revamp of the club's leadership, requesting that a new European-based professional coaching staff be appointed. He also wants sporting director Fernando Hierro replaced with someone who has both high-level experience and full authority over transfer decisions.
According to Okaz, Ronaldo's demands are financially realistic. Al Nassr's estimated annual revenue could exceed $213 million, on par with the top 30 European clubs.
Ronaldo has also proposed a makeover of the current roster. He reportedly wants the club to offload goalkeeper Bento, defender Aymeric Laporte, midfielder Angelo Gabriel and striker Wesley. Among international players, he only wants to keep center-back Mohamed Simakan, midfielders Otavio, Marcelo Brozovic, and forwards Sadio Mane and Jhon Duran. For domestic players, Ronaldo has recommended releasing or selling those who are not up to standard.
Al Nassr's transfer budget is projected at around $80 million, modest compared to elite European clubs. The team may look to strengthen by targeting high-profile free agents, including Kevin De Bruyne and Leroy Sane, both of whom are out of contract this summer. However, both players are reportedly still prioritizing top-tier football in Europe.
Ronaldo's current deal with Al Nassr expires at the end of this season. While he had previously expressed interest in extending through 2026, he may reconsider unless the club fulfills his conditions. If satisfied, he could extend his contract until the summer of 2027.
Since joining Al Nassr in January 2023, Ronaldo has participated in 16 competitions but has won only one official title, the Arab Club Champions Cup, which is recognized by FIFA.
