The controversy started from Orelsan's new album, "La fuite en avant". In the song "La petite voix", the rapper, who is a well-known supporter of Caen FC, includes the line: "You will sink your city like the Mbappés." ESPN reported.
The lyric is a direct reference to Mbappe's company, Interconnected Ventures, which purchased Orelsan's hometown club Caen in 2024. The team were relegated to France’s third division last season.
After the song came out, Mbappe responded with frustration on social media.
"You're welcome to come 'save' the city you love so much," the 26-year-old forward wrote. "The guy kept begging us to join with 1% without paying a cent, because he's broke, just to look like the nice guy from Normandy."

In an interview with Fun Radio on Wednesday, Orelsan, 43, described the situation as a "misunderstanding" and said he did not intend to take it further.
"I don't really feel like responding," Orelsan said. "I'm still in the heat of the moment, and I don't really want to talk about it. It's a misunderstanding. I think I just need to properly explain the concept of the album. These negative things form a kind of inner voice, an inner critic, that starts to eat away at me and only see the bad. It's a big theme of the album."
When asked about the incident while training with the France national team on Wednesday, Mbappe, who was preparing for two 2026 World Cup qualifying games, dismissed the topic.
"Nothing to say, I’m not interested," he told reporters.
Orelsan, whose real name is Aurélien Cotentin, is one of France's most influential hip-hop artists. His albums, including "Le chant des sirènes" (2011) and "Civilisation" (2021), have solidified his position in the French music scene, winning multiple Victoires de la Musique, the most prestigious music award in France.
