Manchester United fans have strongly opposed the club's decision to increase ticket prices at Old Trafford for the 2025-2026 season, after a year marked by disappointment.

On the same day the Premier League released its fixture list on Wednesday, United announced a new ticket system that divides home matches into three categories: A, B, and C.

Matches against top rivals like Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle fall into category A, with ticket prices ranging £59 and £97 (US$79.25-130.30).

According to the Manchester United Supporters' Trust (MUST), this new system will lead to a more than 50% increase in prices for the 20,000 fans who buy single-match tickets.

The club explained that the move aims to strengthen its financial position and maintain competitiveness. However, Manchester United Supporters' Trust (MUST), the club's official supporters' trust, criticized the decision, stating that fans were not consulted in advance.

The group also accused the club of failing to honor its commitment to engage with supporters through the Fans' Advisory Board (FAB).

"Once again, they have failed to consult any of the fans representative bodies on the details of the decision, and once again they're making choices against the interests of fans and, we believe, the club as a whole," MUST’s spokesman said, as cited by ESPN.

Following the backlash, Man United confirmed that they had discussed the issue with FAB and made adjustments to the ticket price increases.

The price hike comes as part of a broader cost-cutting strategy under co-owner Jim Ratcliffe. The club has laid off nearly 500 employees, shut down the staff canteen, and ended its ambassadorial contract with legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

United recently endured a disappointing campaign under manager Ruben Amorim. The team finished 15th in the Premier League, lost 0-1 to Tottenham in the Europa League final, and failed to qualify for any European competitions next season.
