The Vietnam Football Federation has accepted an offer from Japan to send its men’s and women’s football teams to that country for training.

At a meeting with Le Hoai Anh, the VFF’s general secretary, in Hanoi on Monday, Tanji Norio, deputy head of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics organizing committee, invited the teams if they qualify for the Games, the VFF said in a statement on its website.

He also told Anh to send the U16 and U19 teams to Japan for training.

Vietnam have qualified for the 2020 AFC U23 Championship finals. The top four teams at the event, to be hosted by Thailand, will earn tickets to the Tokyo Olympics.

Anh asked Japan to arrange three friendly matches for the women’s team in August. He also wanted to send the U19-U20 men’s team for training in 2020 to prepare for the 2021 SEA Games to be held in Vietnam.

"It will be a great chance for our young players to compete with international opponents and accumulate experience," he said at the meeting, which was also attended by Toshiya Miura, the former coach of the Vietnamese men’s team.
