According to Bild, Ivanovic filed the paperwork at the Munich court in late November. The 38-year-old is reportedly seeking alimony and custody support for their three children, Luka, Leon and Teo, who are living with her in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

The high-profile split comes after nine years of marriage. The couple, long considered a symbol of longevity in the sports world, began dating in 2014 and held a romantic wedding in Venice in 2016, shortly after Schweinsteiger joined Manchester United.

While Ivanovic's legal representative confirmed in July that the couple had separated due to "irreconcilable differences," German media suggest the breakdown is rooted in Schweinsteiger's private life.

In June 2025, reports surfaced alleging that the 41-year-old former Bayern Munich midfielder was seen being intimate with a woman identified as a parent at his children's school. German media identified the woman as "Silva," a Bulgarian national, and claimed the relationship began in the summer of 2024.

Bunte reported that while Ivanovic was initially willing to forgive her husband to save the marriage, Schweinsteiger expressed a desire to "be free", crushing hopes of a reconciliation.

The couple's last public appearance together was at the Laver Cup in September 2024. Although they posted photos together on social media as recently as December 2024, sources suggest the relationship had already been in turmoil by then.

Schweinsteiger, 41, a World Cup champion with Germany and Champions League winner with Bayern Munich, played for Manchester United for 1.5 years, winning the FA Cup in 2016, before moving to the MLS with Chicago Fire and retiring in 2019.

Ivanovic retired from professional tennis in 2016 to focus on her family.
