Jota and his brother Andre died in a car accident on the A-52 highway in Cernadilla in Zamora. It is reported that Jota's car overturned and caught fire after a tire burst.
Just hours before the incident, Jota posted a heartfelt video on his personal social media, capturing moments from his wedding day, which was just 11 days earlier on June 22.
The video featured behind-the-scenes footage and images of Jota and his wife, Rute Cardoso, dancing with guests.
Jota captioned the post: "A day we will never forget."
Jota and Cardoso began dating in 2012, and in July 2022, the Liverpool striker proposed.
The couple married in a church in Porto, Portugal, with their three children present. After the wedding, Jota shared his joy, saying, "I'm the lucky one."
Cardoso also shared photos from the wedding writing: "Yes to forever. My dream came true."

Jota, whose full name is Diogo José Teixeira da Silva, was born on Dec. 4, 1996, in Porto, Portugal. He began his professional career at Pacos de Ferreira before moving to Wolverhampton, where he gained attention for his talent as a goal scorer.
In 2020, Liverpool paid US$57 million to bring Jota to the club. He quickly made his mark with his pace, workrate and finishing abilities, scoring 47 goals in 123 Premier League appearances.
Under the management of Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot, Jota helped Liverpool win numerous trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cups.
On the international stage, he earned 49 caps for Portugal, scoring 14 goals and won two UEFA Nations League.
