Quach Thi Lan has been approved to compete at the Tokyo Olympics this year as Vietnam's sole athletics representative.

The World Athletics and Olympic Organizing Committee has agreed to grant Lan the Olympic invitation slot, following nomination by Vietnam Athletics Federation.

She will compete in the 400 meter hurdles, since the Olympic Organizing Committee requested not to send an athlete that specialized in the 3,000 meter hurdles or 10,000 meter decathlon categories.

This will be the first Olympic event in Lan’s career. The 25-year-old won gold medals at Asian Games 2018 and Asian Athletics Championships 2017 and 2019.

Other athletes to have claimed tickets to the Olympics are Nguyen Huy Hoang (swimming), Le Thanh Tung and Dinh Phuong Thanh (gymnastics), Nguyen Tien Minh and Nguyen Thuy Linh (badminton), Do Thi Anh Nguyet and Nguyen Hoang Phi Vu (archery), Luong Thi Thao and Dinh Thi Hao (rowing), Truong Thi Kim Tuyen (taekwondo), Nguyen Thi Tam and Nguyen Van Duong (boxing), Thach Kim Tuan, Hoang Thi Duyen, and Vuong Thi Huyen (weightlifting).

One invitation slot for shooting is currently awaiting confirmation.
