Park Hang-seo has called up the best U23 players in Vietnam for SEA Games 31 next month.

The list includes members of the U23 team that qualified for the 2022 U23 Asian Cup and the squad that won the U23 AFF Youth Championship earlier this year.

Hanoi FC contributed the most players with six, followed by Pho Hien FC with three.

Doan Van Hau, who scored a double in the SEA Games 30 final three years ago to help Vietnam win the gold medal, is still eligible to play. However, Hau is still recovering from an injury so he was not called up.

The U23 team will start training Thursday and play two friendlies before SEA Games 31.

According to the regulations, each team competing in SEA Games 30 can register three players over 23 years old. Coach Park hasn't decided which three players would be selected.

According to a source at VnExpress, midfield star Nguyen Quang Hai is one of the choices. However, if he goes to a foreign club, he is unlikely to return to the SEA Games because this tournament is not part of the FIFA system, so the clubs have the right to refuse to release players for national duty.

The draw for men's football at SEA Games 31 will take place Wednesday in Hanoi. Vietnam are among the first seeds and will be in group A.
