Vietnamese laborers will get three days off for the upcoming New Year's Day holiday, from December 31 to January 2 next year.

While the labor code only allows one day off on New Year's Day, January 1, 2023 falls on a Sunday, meaning workers will get an extra day off on Monday, totaling to three consecutive days off from Saturday to Monday.

The Lunar New Year holiday (Tet) would follow three weeks after that, though the exact days off of the holiday have yet to be confirmed. Railway tickets for Tet have already been on sale since Tuesday.

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has proposed to the prime minister that the Tet holiday will last seven days from January 20 to January 26 next year.

Vietnam has 11 official days off for holidays and festivals a year. Foreigners working in Vietnam would get an extra day off for their traditional New Year holiday, and another day off for their countries' National Day holiday.
