Woman suspected to have drowned own children

A leader of Nghia Son Commune said that on Wednesday, Nguyet drove her two daughters, aged 2 and 5, on a motorbike from their home to a river in Nghia Son.

At around 10 a.m. the same day, locals discovered that Nguyet was acting strange with her two children at the Ninh Co River, so they tried to intervene.

"The woman told people that she had drowned her children," the official said.

The two children were pulled from the river and were sent to a medical station, but were already dead.

A former primary school teacher, Nguyet quit her job last year due to depression.

She was arrested by Nam Dinh police and is now under investigation.
