A 24-year-old woman has been detained in northern Vietnam for brokering sex work for as high as $2,000 per service.

The Criminal Police Division under the Ministry of Public Security is collaborating with Hanoi police to probe into Nguyen Thi Huong Giang, a native of Hai Duong Province, for "brokering sex services."

On August 17, police raided a hotel in the Trung Hoa urban area in Hanoi’s Thanh Xuan District and found a man with a commercial sex worker. Police tracked down Giang through this case, and found that she had since early 2021 created social media groups to recruit women and connect them with men wanting sexual services.

Giang charged VND10-15 million ($430-640) per service, with prices going as high as $2,000. Customers had to make bank transfers to her account. She paid the sex workers 30% of the money she collected from the customer.

In Vietnam, sex work has long been treated as a social evil and brokering the service remains a crime.
