The woman, 61, found it difficult to breathe and lost consciousness after slicing a large amount of green onions at home and inhaling the gas that came off from the herbs. Her family took her to the Dong Trieu City medical center on Wednesday, where doctors diagnosed her with severe anaphylaxis and respiratory failure.
Medical personnel injected her with adrenaline and put her on respiratory apparatus. After 24 hours of intensive care, the woman got out of her coma.
Anaphylaxis is a potentially fatal allergic reaction that can occur minutes, even seconds, after coming in contact with allergens, which can be medication, food items or foreign substances.
