A court in northern Vietnam sentenced a woman to 22.5 years in prison after she joined her two sisters to set their mother's house on fire due to inheritance disagreement.

Do Thi Dua, 33, of Yen My District of Hung Yen Province received 20 years behind bars for "murder" and two years and six months for "property destruction," as concluded by a province's court on Tuesday.

According to the verdict, Dua and her two older sisters, Do Thi Dinh and Do Thi Diem, aged 40 and 34, went to their mother’s house in Yen My District on the morning of October 30, 2022, and smashed the house up together.

Then one of them poured gasoline all over the sitting room and set it on fire as the other two held the mother, Do Thi Deu, 61, to keep her from running away.

The two eldest daughters died of burn injuries the month following the fire.

After 40 days of treatment, the mother died in December.

Deu and her three daughters had been quarreling over property inheritance, with the three daughters claiming that the mother gave their only brother more than them, police said.
