The decision to fine Van Nguyen*, 45, was issued by police of Thach Ha District on Monday. Van has since publicly apologized to the bride and groom, and the newly-weds decided not to press charges or request compensation.
On October 4, while they were on the way to the wedding venue, the bride and groom had foul substances splashed onto them by Van. The incident forced them to change into new outfits to continue the ceremony.
Van then tried to run away, but was caught by family members of the groom and handed over to local police. The incident was also recorded on video by people at the scene, and clips were posted on social media.
She told police she used to be in a romantic relationship with the groom, and the two had a 6-year-old child together. The man's family did not allow the two to get married, and when Van discovered that her ex was to be married to someone else, she said she felt betrayed.
Local police have confirmed that one of her children has blood relation with the groom.
