The police, in cooperation with inspectors of the HCMC Department of Health, are working with the medical crew responsible for performing a rhinoplasty procedure on the woman, only identified as Thu.
Thu's family said she and her 16-year-old daughter traveled from their home in Tay Ninh Province to HCMC on Tuesday and came to the beauty clinic under Thailand Hospital Company on Pasteur Street in downtown District 1 to fill her nose and ears with silicone materials.
At 11 a.m., Thu went under surgery. At 2 p.m., she told her family she was tired, while employees at the clinic called her daughter to come and take care of her. When Thu’s condition deteriorated, she was transferred to the 115 Hospital.
The hospital said Thu was hospitalized while under a deep coma. Despite treatments, she died at around 10 p.m. Her initial cause of death was determined as anaphylactic shock, suspected to be due to anesthetic poisoning, which led to multiple organ failure.
Thu’s family said her health was fine before the procedure.
The health department said the facility Thu went to has had an operation license since October 2023. The clinic has been suspended amid the investigation.
