VnExpress Hope Foundation to provide medicine packages for Covid patients

The initiative comes as Vietnam deals with its most challenging Covid outbreak yet. Epicenter of the latest outbreak that started late April, Ho Chi Minh City, has been recording around 4,000 new patients every day. Given the heavy loads at quarantine centers and hospitals, a large number of patients with mild or moderate symptoms are staying at home.

The Hope Foundation's "Medicine package for Covid-19 patients" campaign aims to support those staying at home after testing positive for the novel coronavirus. Timely provision of medicines would help prevent the cases from turning severe and help reduce the nation's Covid death tally.

It is estimated that the city needs more than 180,000 medicine packages. Each package worth VND380,000 ($16.65) will include vitamin and fever relief pills as well as anticoagulant and anti-inflammatory medicine to be used for seven days, along with the HCMC Health Department's instructions for use in case of breathing difficulties arise or when oxygen saturation level is below 95 percent.

The foundation will send the packages to HCMC's district medical centers for distribution to Covid patients staying at home.
