A 37-year-old woman was fined VND35 million (US$1,376) for reversing on the Nha Trang–Cam Lam Expressway in central Khanh Hoa Province, home to Nha Trang beach city.

Traffic police issued the administrative penalty on Friday morning. In addition to the fine, she had 10 points deducted from her driver's license under a new traffic regulation that took effect this year. Under this system, drivers who lose all 12 points in their license must wait at least six months before retaking the test to regain their license.

On the afternoon of Feb. 4, the driver was traveling on the Nha Trang–Cam Lam Expressway toward a national highway. After driving erratically for a stretch, she decided to reverse her car directly on the expressway.

During questioning, she admitted to police that her actions were dangerous and inappropriate, posing a serious risk to other vehicles.

The Nha Trang–Cam Lam Expressway spans 49 kilometers through Khanh Hoa Province. Constructed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, the project required an investment of over VND7.6 trillion (US$300 million).

The expressway is 17 meters wide, features four lanes, and has a maximum speed limit of 90 kph.
