A female student returning from the U.K. has tested positive for the new coronavirus, putting Vietnam's active cases count at 36.

"Patient 1098" is a 26-year-old resident of the northern port city of Hai Phong.

She landed at the Van Don Airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh last Saturday on Vietnam Airlines flight VN0054 from London.

She was quarantined on arrival at a military facility in Hai Duong Province and was confirmed positive Tuesday. She has developed Covid-19 symptoms like coughing, fever and sore throat.

With the latest infection, Vietnam has so far recorded 1,098 Covid-19 cases, of whom 1,023 have recovered and 35 have died. Four other patients died of other illnesses after they were confirmed Covid-19 negative.

Of the national Covid-19 tally, 691 were locally transmitted cases and the rest imported.

Vietnam has gone 33 days without recording a community transmission of the coronavirus.

More than 14,000 people are in isolation following the protocol to prevent the viral infection from spreading. Of these, 200 are quarantined in hospitals, over 11,000 in centralized camps and the rest at home or other designated accommodations.

Worldwide, more than one million have died of Covid-19, which has infected close to 36 million people.
