Communist Party Chief and State President Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc have sent messages congratulating U.S. President-elect Joe Biden.

The two Vietnamese leaders sent the congratulatory messages Monday, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a press release.

Trong and Phuc expressed confidence in the solid foundations of the relationship between the two countries, saying it has been steadily strengthening over the past 25 years. They were also confident that the comprehensive partnership between the two countries will continue to develop in a stable, effective manner, benefiting people of both countries and promoting peace, security, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh sent a congratulatory message to the U.S. Vice president-elect Kamala Harris the same day. The Vietnamese leaders took the opportunity to invite Biden and Harris to visit Vietnam at the earliest.

Biden was declared winner of the U.S. presidential elections on November 8, defeating Donald Trump. In his first statement as president-elect, he vowed to "be a president for all Americans -- whether you voted for me or not."
