A French-Vietnamese swimming coach drowned in the sea in Nha Trang in central Vietnam and died Tuesday.

The 67-year-old man went for a swim in Loc Tho Ward when the tragic accident happened. People on the beach noticed what was happening and shouted for help, Nguyen Van Hung, head of the Nha Trang Bay management committee’s rescue team, said.

Lifeguards rushed to the scene, brought him back to shore and performed CPR but in vain, local media reported.

His family members said the man was a swimming coach in France who visited Nha Trang every year.

Hung said waves in Nha Trang are as a high as 3-4 m now, and warning signs have been put up to prevent people from getting into the water.
