The Health Ministry announced 110,280 new domestic Covid-19 patients Wednesday in all 63 cities and provinces, the highest single-day figure ever.

The northern province of Nam Dinh led with 24,042 new cases (including 20,866 cases recorded from previous days that were added to the national database on the day), followed by Bac Giang Province, 15,237 (including 12,691 added cases), and Hanoi, 15,114.

In the past 24 hours, 114 Covid-19 patients have died, including 18 in Hanoi.

The average death toll per day in Vietnam in the last seven days was 97.

Since the pandemic started last year, the death toll in Vietnam has climbed to 40,452, or 1.1 percent of all infections.

In the latest wave that hit the country in late April, more than 3.63 million cases have been confirmed and 2.52 million of them have recovered.

So far, 78.9 percent of the population have received two vaccine doses.
