The meeting will take place on Monday, Aug. 26, at the National Assembly House in Hanoi, according to a statement by the National Assembly's General Secretary Bui Van Cuong issued Friday afternoon.
The National Assembly convenes two regular sessions each year. An extraordinary session is convened if requested by the president, the National Assembly Standing Committee, the prime minister, or at least one-third of the total number of lawmakers.
The 15th National Assembly has held seven previous extraordinary meetings, including five to consider high-level personnel affairs.
According to the Law on Organization of the National Assembly, the National Assembly elects leaders of the state, of the assembly, and of units in the state apparatus. It approves the prime minister's proposal for appointing deputy prime ministers, ministers, and other government members.
