Vietnam's domestic Covid case count up by 12,591

The Health Ministry confirmed another 12,591 local Covid-19 patients in 42 localities on Tuesday, down 1,628 against Monday.

Ho Chi Minh City accounted for most infections, at 5,444, followed by its neighboring provinces of Binh Duong (4,530), Dong Nai (634) and Long An (587).

So far in the fourth wave that hit Vietnam in late April, the nation has recorded 457,882 cases and 236,086 have recovered as of Tuesday.

As confirmed by the Ministry of Health, 11,064 patients had died as of Monday, mostly during the new wave. The ministry has not updated any new fatality on Tuesday.

The country has vaccinated more than 19.96 million people, including over 2.16 million who have received two shots.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, Vietnam has recorded 462,096 infections, ranking 59th out of 222 countries and territories.

For the rate of infections per million people, Vietnam ranks 16th, with 4,700 infections for every one million people.
