The Health Ministry announced 2,704 new domestic Covid-19 patients Monday morning in 19 localities, with most recorded in Ho Chi Minh City.

The southern metropolis reported 1,714, followed by its neighboring province of Binh Duong with 407 cases.

Other cases were reported in southern provinces of Tien Giang (201) Dong Nai (125), Vinh Long (49), An Giang Province (25), Dong Thap (19), Ben Tre (19), Hau Giang (7) and Can Tho City (7); the central Da Nang City (27) and provinces of Phu Yen (26), Binh Thuan (23), Binh Dinh (19), Dak Lak (16), Khanh Hoa (12), Dak Nong (5), Lam Dong (2) and the northern Hung Yen Province (1).

Among cases confirmed this morning, 2,197 were in quarantine zone and areas under lockdown and the other 507 were detected in the community with unclear sources of transmission.

Three months into its fourth wave, which started in late April and is by far the most challenging that Vietnam has encountered, the country has recorded 97,370 cases in 62 of its 63 cities and provinces.

Of the patients, 489 have died.

HCMC is leading the case count with 62,139 infections.

More than 4.61 million of the nation's 96 million have been vaccinated against the new coronavirus but only 389,863 have gotten two doses.
