Vietnam has administered 1-1.5 million Covid-19 vaccine doses a day, with the country's injection rate ranking third after China and India in November.

By the end of Thursday, 63 cities and provinces had administered over 135 million doses, or 88 percent of the total the Ministry of Health had allocated, it stated.

Seventy-seven percent of the population had received their first dose and 60 percent two, surpassing the target set by World Health Organization.

To end the pandemic, the WHO stressed each country must achieve the target of having at least 40 percent of its population fully vaccinated by the end of 2021 and raise that rate to 70 percent by mid-2022.

Currently, Vietnam's vaccination coverage rate of at least one dose ranks fourth in Southeast Asia after Singapore, Cambodia, and Brunei.

Until now, 75.2 million have received one dose and 59.4 million, two.

The country has started injecting the third doses for a week now, with almost 1.1 doses having been administered, including the third dose of the three-dose combo for Cuba's Abdala vaccine.

Vietnam has received 169 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. Of these, more than 80 million are acquired by the state fund while the rest comes from various other sources.

Since the pandemic began, the country has recorded nearly 1.5 million infections and 28,857 deaths.
