Vietnam recorded 78,744 new Covid-19 cases Friday, taking the total number of infections since the start of the pandemic to over 3.12 million.

Hanoi continued to lead the single-day count with 9,836 cases, followed by Quang Ninh with 4,615 and Bac Giang with 3,563.

With 78 deaths confirmed Friday, including 20 in Hanoi, the Covid-19 death toll has risen to 39,962, or 1.3 percent of the total infections.

15,835 Covid-19 patients were announced recovered on Friday, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 2.35 million.

So far, 70.8 million adults have received at least one Covid-19 vaccine shot, 67.1 million have received the second and 37.7 million have received their third.

Among children in the 12-17 age group, 8.6 million have received at least one Covid-19 vaccine shot, and 8.1 million have received their second.
