Vietnam reports 16,142 new Covid-19 cases

Vietnam confirmed another 16,142 Covid-19 cases Friday in 62 cities and provinces, with Hanoi leading the tally.

The Health Ministry said that Hanoi had 1,834 new cases Friday, followed by the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau with 1,334 cases and HCMC's neighboring province of Tay Ninh, with 948 cases. HCMC recorded 679 cases.

The ministry also confirmed 235 Covid-19 deaths, including 44 in HCMC and 20 in Dong Nai, raising the national Covid death toll to 30,766, or 1.9 percent of the total infections.

The fourth wave that hit Vietnam late April has until now seen over 1.61 million Covid cases. Of these more than 1.21 have recovered.

Over 64.8 million people of Vietnams 96 million population have been vaccinated with two doses, and more than 2 million have received the third dose.
