The two deaths in HCMC happened at the Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital and those in Dong Thap Province at the Sa Dec Hospital.
One HCMC death was that of a 79-year-old man in District 5 with a history of type 2 diabetes and pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) who tested positive for the novel coronavirus on June 20. He died July 4 of pneumonia caused by Covid-19, multiple-organ damage and septic shock.
The second HCMC death was that of a 61-year-old woman in District 1 with no underlying conditions. She tested positive for the virus on June 18 and died July 5 because of severe pneumonia caused by Covid-19, complications of progressive respiratory failure and suspected acute myocardial infarction.
Another 61-year-old woman in Dong Thap’s Sa Dec Town who was diagnosed with Covid on July 5 died the same day due to pneumonia caused by Covid-19 and complications of progressive respiratory failure. This patient had a background of type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney failure and ischemic heart disease.
A 65-year-old man in the southern province’s Lai Vung District was also diagnosed with Covid on July 5 and died the next day of severe pneumonia caused by Covid-19 and, complications of progressive respiratory failure. He had a background of type 2 diabetes, stroke and Cushing's syndrome, a disorder that occurs when one's body makes too much of the hormone cortisol over a long period of time.
A 52-year-old woman in Sa Dec died the same day with severe pneumonia caused by Covid-19 and a history of type 2 diabetes and kidney failure.
A 43-year-old woman in the province's Lap Vo District die the same day with severe pneumonia caused by Covid-19 and a history of type 2 diabetes , stroke and Cushing's syndrome.
A 59-year-old man in the prpvince's Chau Thanh District died on July 7 with severe pneumonia caused by Covid-19 and a history of hepatitis B and hypertension.
Vietnam has recorded 84 Covid-19 deaths so far in the new Covid-19 wave that started late April.
Over 25,000 infections have been recorded in 58 of the nation's 63 cities and provinces since, with HCMC accounting for most cases at 12,658.
