Vietnam records 98,864 new Covid-19 cases

Vietnam recorded 98,864 new Covid-19 cases Saturday, marking yet another daily high in the country since the pandemic broke out.

A total of 77,982 new local Covid-19 cases were recorded in 61 cities and provinces, while the northern province of Thai Nguyen added 20,894 cases recorded from previous days to the national database, making it the place with the highest number of cases in the day - 22,379.

It was followed by Hanoi with 10,783 cases and the north central province of Nghe An with 3,985.

With 88 deaths confirmed Saturday, including 24 in Hanoi, the Covid-19 death toll has risen to 40,050, or 1.2 percent of the total infections.

20,427 Covid-19 patients were announced recovered the same day, bringing the total number of recovered cases to over 2.37 million.

Since the pandemic broke out in country in early 2020, Vietnam has confirmed over 3.16 million infections.
