31 of the new cases were recorded in HCMC, 18 in Bac Giang, 18 in Binh Duong, seven in Bac Ninh, five in Da Nang, three in Long An, two each in Lang Son, Dong Nai and Ha Tinh, and one each in Nghe An and Nam Dinh.
Of the cases in HCMC, 16 had had close contact with previoulsy confirmed patients, seven are associated with a Christian mission coronavirus cluster, one linked to the cluster at the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases while the rest are being contact traced.
All the cases in the northern provinces of Bac Giang are associated with existing outbreaks at local industrial parks. Six patients in its neighbor Bac Ninh are also linked to local industrial parks while the source of transmission of the remaining case remains unclear.
The new cases in the southern Binh Duong Province, a major industrial hub bordering HCMC, are linked to previously confirmed Covid-19 patients.
The new patients in Da Nang City had had close contact with a coronavirus patient and had been already isolated following contact tracing.
The new cases in Long An Province, which also neighbors HCMC, had already been quaratined as close contact of a coronavirus patient.
In Dong Nai, another industrial hub that borders HCMC, one patient is linked to the cluster at House Ware Company in Binh Duong Province and the remaining is being contact traced. The cases ended Dong Nai's 45-day streak of having no Covid cases.The two new cases in Lang Son Province are associated with the cluster at Quang Chau industrial park in Bac Giang.
The new cases in Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Nam Dinh had already been quaratined.
Bac Giang Province registered another 178 cases who had been detected days earlier in isolated areas, putting the tocal cases recorded on Saturday at 471.
Since the new wave started on April 27, Vietnam has registered 9,644 community transmissions in 41 cities and provinces.
Bac Giang, Bac Ninh and HCMC account for most of the infections, at 5,310, 1,506 and 1,481. Bac Giang recorded 227 new cases on Saturday, HCMC 135 and Bac Ninh 36.
