Vietnam confirmed 80 new community transmissions of Covid-19 in six localities and one more coronavirus death Saturday night.

Of the new cases, 39 were recorded in the northern province of Bac Giang, 28 in its neighbor Bac Ninh, six in HCMC, two in industrial hub Binh Duong Province bordering HCMC, two in Vinh Phuc and one in Lang Son. Hanoi's locked down hospitals, the K Hospital and the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, recorded one case each.

All cases in Bac Giang are linked to clusters at its industrial parks and all had been isolated prior to testing.

In Bac Ninh, 22 cases are associated with clusters at local industrial parks and six cases are linked to outbreaks in Thuan Thanh and Dai Phuc districts.

All new cases in HCMC are linked to a cluster that emerged on May 26 from a Christian congregation called Revival Ekklesia Mission based in Go Vap District. Infections were first detected among its members before the virus spread to 21 of the city's 22 districts, and then to other provinces in the south and Central Highlands.

All cases in Vinh Phuc, Lang Son and Binh Duong are those who have had close contacts with previously confirmed Covid-19 patients and have been quarantined.

In Hanoi, a medical worker of the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases contracted the virus from Covid-19 patients there, while the case at the K Hospital had already been isolated following contact tracing. Both have been locked down since last month as coronavirus hotspots.

On Saturday, Vietnam reported 246 domestic infections and two deaths due to Covid-19, the first being a 35-year-old woman announced in the afternoon.

The second death announced on Saturday night is of a 53-year-old woman in the northern province of Son La.

She died of septic shock, multiple organ failure, severe Covid-19 on the background of cervical disc herniation and lupus erythematosus on Friday, the Health Ministry said, adding that she had a history of polyradiculitis.

Since April 27 when the new wave started in Vietnam, 5421 infections have been recorded in 39 of the nation's 63 cities and provinces, including major cities, industrial hubs and localities housing foreign tech giants.

A total of 18 coronavirus deaths have been recorded in the fourth wave.
