Vietnam records 8,385 new Covid-19 cases Tuesday

The Health Ministry confirmed 8,385 new Covid-19 community transmissions in 39 cities and provinces Tuesday, sending the ongoing wave's tally to 224,147.

HCMC recorded the highest number of patients, 3,956, followed by its neighboring provinces of Binh Duong, with 1,325 cases and Long An with 890.

Hanoi recorded 61 new cases.

Of the day's cases, 7,270 were recorded in quarantine camps and isolated areas while 1,115 in the community.

Vietnam has recorded local Covid-19 cases in 62 of its 63 cities and provinces since the new wave started over three months ago, leaving northern Cao Bang the only province that has yet to be infected.

HCMC accounted for more than half of the nation's cases, with 129,751, followed by Binh Duong with 31,851.

The city also accounted for the most deaths recorded on Tuesday, 308 out of 388 in 13 cities and provinces - 44 in Binh Duong, 10 in Long An, five in Dong Thap, four each in Can Tho and Dong Nai, three each in Hanoi and Tien Giang, two each in Ben Tre and Soc Trang, and one each in Da Nang, Khanh Hoa and Kien Giang. The pandemic's fatalities in Vietnam now stand at 4,145, including 4,110 in the new wave.

Another 4,428 patients recovered on Tuesday, raising the number of discharged patients to 80,348.

More than 9.98 million people in the country have received Covid vaccination, including more than one million fully vaccinated with two shots.
