Vietnam records 43 new local Covid cases

The infection tally in Vietnam's latest Covid-19 wave has risen to 5,876 after the Health Ministry confirmed 43 new community transmissions Tuesday morning.

The new patients were detected in northern provinces Bac Giang and Bac Ninh and Ho Chi Minh City.

In Bac Giang, 22 cases were recorded in areas under isolation or quarantine camps and they are all linked to clusters at its industrial parks.

Bac Ninh that borders Bac Giang registered six cases. Five of them are related to two clusters at two industrial parks and for the other, the authorities are looking into the source of transmission.

HCMC reported 15 cases, including 10 associated with the cluster that emerged on May 26 from a Christian mission based in Go Vap District. Of the remaining five, four are those that have had direct contact with Covid patients and the source of infection of the other one is still under investigation.

Since the latest Covid-19 wave started six weeks ago, 5,876 cases have been recorded in 39 cities and provinces across Vietnam, including 3,233 in Bac Giang and 1,128 in Bac Ninh.

Hanoi has got 438, including 94 in a hospital under lockdown, and HCMC 437.
