Vietnam recorded its 42nd coronavirus death in Hanoi Sunday morning, bringing the fatality tally in the nation's latest coronavirus wave to seven.

The deceased patient is a 72-year-old woman who has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and hypertension, according to the Ministry of Health.

10 days before she was admitted to the hospital, she experienced symptoms like difficulty breathing and coughing. She got admitted to Hanoi's National Hospital for Tropical Diseases on April 30 for COPD and hypertension.

On May 4, she tested positive for the coronavirus and her conditions worsened. She was put on ventilators and ECMO repeatedly, among other treatments to stave off infections and other conditions. But she responded poorly to treatments.

She passed away Saturday night. Her causes of death were pneumonia due to Covid-19 and multiple organ failure.

Since the new wave of Covid-19 emerged in Vietnam on April 27, the nation has recorded 2,067 cases in 30 cities and provinces.
