Vietnam recorded 40 new local Covid-1 cases Wednesday noon in five northern localities, the Ministry of Health announced.

27 cases were recorded in Bac Giang, four in Bac Ninh, seven in Hanoi and one each in Dien Bien and Hai Duong.

All the cases in Bac Giang are associated with the province's industrial parks which have been deemed as coronavirus hotspots. The cases in other localities have made contact with confirmed coronavirus patients.

A month into the new wave that started April 27, Vietnam has recorded 2,913 local Covid-19 cases in 30 cities and provinces, including seven that have gone at least 14 days without new cases - Quang Ninh and Yen Bai in the north, Nghe An, Quang Ngai, Quang Nam and Quang Tri in the central region, and Dong Nai in the south.

Bac Giang and Bac Ninh, both neighbors of Hanoi, are the worst hit with 1,481 and 560 cases.

On Tuesday, the nation's daily Covid-19 tally rose to an all time high with 444 cases recorded.
