Vietnam records 4,151 more local Covid cases

Vietnam on Thursday added 4,151 Covid-19 cases to its database, bringing the total coronavirus tally in the new wave to 849,198.

The three localities with the highest numbers of new infections were Ho Chi Minh City with 909 cases, Dong Nai with 647 cases and Binh Duong with 483 cases.

On Thursday, the Soc Trang Center for Disease Control (CDC) added 1,059 cases to the national database. The patients either returned from coronavirus hotspots or were detected in quarantine zones.

81 deaths were recorded, with 61 cases in Ho Chi Minh City, 10 in Binh Duong, three in Long An and one each in Dong Thap, An Giang, Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang and Soc Trang.

The total coronavirus death toll so far is 20,950, accounting for around 2.4 percent of all infections.

Also on Thursday, 719 Covid-19 patients were announced recovered, bringing the number of recovered cases to 788,005.

Vietnam has vaccinated over 40.6 million people with at least one Covid-19 vaccine shot. Over 16.8 million people have been fully vaccinated.
