Vietnam records 3,898 new local Covid cases

The Ministry of Health announced 3,898 more Covid-19 community transmissions in 21 cities and provinces Friday morning, with most of them in Ho Chi Minh City.

HCMC recorded 3,302 new patients, followed by its neighbor Long An Province (223), central Da Nang City (47).

The other cases were reported in the southern provinces of Binh Duong (37), Tay Ninh (36) and Dong Nai (33), all three being HCMC's neighbors; the Mekong Delta's Tien Giang (37), Dong Thap (31), Ben Tre (20), Kien Giang (13), Vinh Long (12), Can Tho (10), and Tra Vinh (9), the central provinces of Binh Thuan (23), Ninh Thuan (19), Phu Yen (15), Nghe An (11), Dak Lak (4), and Quang Nam (1); and Hanoi (14) and the northern Lai Chau Province (1).

Of the new patients, 3,707 were detected in quarantine zones and areas under lockdown and 191 are in the community with unknown sources of transmission.

Since the new wave started on April 27, Vietnam has registered 74,519 community transmissions in 62 of its 63 cities and provinces.

Lai Chau Province has made it to the list of infected locality, with the patient returning from HCMC, leaving northern Cao Bang Province the only locality that has yet to be affected.

HCMC is leading in the number of infections, with 48,863 cases.

The nation has vaccinated more than 4.41 million of its 96-million population against Covid-19, but only 334,560 have got two doses.
