Vietnam records 23,354 new Covid cases, big drop in deaths

Vietnam recorded 23,354 new cases in 62 provinces and cities and 10 deaths on Saturday.

The average Covid fatalities over the past week were 20 a day, down 39 percent from the previous week.

The Covid-19 death toll in Vietnam is now 42,934.

The three localities with the highest number of new cases were Hanoi with 1,361 cases, northern Yen Bai Province with 807 cases, and northern Vinh Phuc Province with 672 cases.

During the fourth coronavirus wave that hit the country since April last year, the country has recorded over 10.4 million infections and 8.9 million of them have recovered.

The number of severe cases has dropped by 31 percent from a week ago to 1,191.

The country has vaccinated most of its adults and started vaccinating children in the 5-11 age group against Covid-19 this week.
