Vietnam records 2,454 new domestic Covid-19 cases

HCMC continued to be the Covid-19 hotspot with 1,756 of the 2,454 new cases confirmed Sunday morning by the health ministry.

The southern provinces of Binh Duong and Dong Nai were a distant second and third with 281 and 75 cases, respectively. The remaining cases were recorded in another 18 provinces and cities.

Among the new cases, 2,226 were detected within quarantine centers or lockdown areas.

The HCMC Disease Control Center also registered 626 cases on the Covid-19 national database that had been detected previously at quarantine centers but not confirmed until now.

The new cases have raised the city’s tally under the ongoing wave to 29,081, almost 62 percent of the national total of 47,343 cases in 58 provinces and cities.

More than 4.2 million people have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, with 27,000 getting their first or second shots Saturday.
