Vietnam records 139 new Covid cases, nearly half in HCMC

Vietnam recorded 139 local Covid-19 cases Monday evening, bringing the day's local tally to 382.

62 cases were recorded in HCMC, 20 in Quang Ngai, 12 in Bac Giang, 11 in Dong Nai, eight each in Binh Duong and Bac Ninh, seven in Ha Tinh, six in Binh Thuan, two in Hung Yen and one each in Hai Phong, Dong Thap and Dak Lak.

34 cases in HCMC are close contact cases, eight have been to Tan Phu District's Son Ky market, nine to Cu Chi District's Tan Phu Trung industrial park, five to District 8's Binh Dien market, and two linked to a Christian mission cluster. Four cases are being contact traced.

All the cases in Quang Ngai and Bac Giang were already contained within locked down zones.

The cases in Dong Nai are linked to an outbreak at the Hoc Mon market in HCMC.

Six cases in Binh Duong are linked to outbreaks at Thuan An City and the Duc Tan residential area. Two cases are being contact traced.

Six cases in Bac Ninh are linked to outbreaks at the Dai Phuc Ward and the Khac Niem industrial park in the eponymous ward. Two others are close contact cases.

All the cases in Ha Tinh are being contact traced.

All the cases in Binh Thuan, Hung Yen, Hai Phong and Dong Thap are linked to confirmed Covid-19 patients.

The case in Dak Lak, a 19-year-old man, returned from HCMC, medically declared himself and has been put into centralized quarantine.

Vietnam entered its fourth wave of Covid-19 community transmission on April 27 and since then, 12,693 infections have been registered in 48 cities and provinces.

Bac Giang still leads the infection count with 5,663 confirmed cases, followed by HCMC with 3,436.
