Vietnam records 13,186 new Covid-19 cases

The Ministry of Health announced 13,186 new Covid-19 cases in 39 localities Thursday, taking the domestic tally in the ongoing wave to 482,498.

The three localities with the highest numbers of infection were HCMC with 5,963 cases, Binh Duong with 4,504 cases and Dong Nai with 803 cases, all three major southern industrial hubs.

Of the day's tally, 7,255 cases were detected in quarantine and lockdown areas, while the remaining in the community with unclear sources of transmission.

Total recoveries since the start of the pandemic rose to 259,324 with 10,602 of them announced on the day.

The total Covid-19 death toll, meanwhile, rose to 12,138 after 271 fatalities were confirmed Thursday, accounting for around 2.5 percent of all infected cases.

Vietnam has vaccinated 20.54 million people, among them 2.88 million have received two doses.
